This ebullient new film performance by Tjimur Dance Theatre, Taiwan’s first professional company dedicated to the culture of the Paiwan people, brims with love and laughter. The title is a multi-purpose colloquial interjection that can translate as ‘Get over yourself!’ There’s certainly nothing pretentious about choreographer Baru Madiljin’s engaging work, which was shot in a blend of street, studio and stage locations. The focus is on the shifting dynamic among four performers whose warm and sometimes bittersweet interactions encompass many moods and moments. Emotive yet essentially light-hearted and domestic, Tjimur’s film puts a lively and universally contemporary spin on indigenous tribal customs.

Tjimur Dance Theatre
Tjimur Dance Theatre is the first dance company in Taiwan dedicated to contemporary Paiwan cultural aesthetics and was founded in 2006 by the head of the company and artistic director, Ljuzem Madiljin, with Baru Madiljin as the dance director and choreographer. Based on the root of the Tjimur Tribe of the Paiwan, Tjimur Dance Theatre members are committed to retaining the traditional cultural foundation while seeking out the essence of the Paiwan culture, where songs are infused to dance and dance inspires music to showcase the most distinctive of contemporary dance companies in Taiwan.
