This stylish film by Nai-Hsuan Yang’s Les Petites Choses Production springs from a live show inspired by The Romance etc one of the classics of Chinese literature. The five cast members originally played a handful of godly and uniquely gifted characters. Now, in this artful digital adaptation of the stage performance, those five divine beings have merged with the people who portray them. Beautifully moody and yet strong, the film shows how dancers deal with their bodies and minds during an extraordinary moment in global society – a time when we may well need a new breed of heroes.
‘This is 14 minutes of wonderful dance.’
‘There are rich densely layered choreographed pieces which would be virtually impossible to reproduce on a dance studio floor and the use of video here has built upon and enriched the viewer’s experience.’
‘This is worth watching more than once and with the sound as high as you can get. The music is integral to this theatre and is a perfect accompaniment.’ by Garry Platt - EdinburghGuide.com ★★★★
‘Yang has transformed her 40-minute stage fusion of martial arts, contemporary dance and hip hop into a handsome 14-minute work that’s very much towards the ‘screendance’ end of the spectrum.’
‘There’s a graceful intensity in the martial arts infused movement of all the dancers, although the scenes with Chen Yi-ju (陳薏如) on a rooftop are especially powerful.’ by David Meed - SeeingDance
‘Staged in spaces that sit between the domestic and mythic, FIGHTERS blends hip-hop and contemporary styles to create an entertaining new depiction of heroism, which many people will recognise after the past year of pandemic-life.’ by Saoirse Anton - Sitting on The Fourth Wall
‘Originally a stage show, this digital version adds great humour and imaginative visual effects’
‘Despite the necessity of social distancing, their individual moves are skilfully choreographed to work as a whole. Fierce facial expressions and stylized moves express their inner as well as physical strength as they fight their internal and extrernal demons.’ by Stephanie Green - Broadway Baby ★★★
‘I found the piece to have endless meanings which can be down to your own interpretation.’ by Nia Powell - A Younger Theatre
